What is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia (also known as “male boobs”) is a condition in which a child or man’s breast gland tissue enlarges or swells. The imbalance between estrogen and testosterone is the most common cause of gynecomastia.
Gynecomastia is normally not a serious problem, but dealing with it can be complicated. Boys and men with gynecomastia can experience pain in their breasts at times. Men with gynecomastia often feel self-conscious and nervous while walking shirtless. At Clinicera, our cosmetic surgeons are experts in gynecomastia surgery, and we make sure that you get the best results possible.
Are You A Suitable Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?
If you’re unhappy about the size of your breasts or dislike things like swimming or walking on the beach topless because you’re afraid of exposing your chest, you’re a good candidate. If you have these issues and need a procedure that guarantees dramatic, near-immediate improvements with minimum scarring, you should consider gynecomastia surgery.
Operation Process of Gynecomastia Surgery
There are two approaches to treat gynecomastia. If the chest is bloated due to obesity, it may just be fat tissues, and patients may opt to undergo chest liposuction to eliminate this disorder. Liposuction, on the other hand, is not an option if the chest is enlarged due to breast tissue development, which requires surgery to fix.
Severe cases of gynecomastia require surgical tissue removal. Patients with stretched, sagging skin around their breasts usually need this procedure.
Male breast reduction with tissue excision is normally done as an outpatient operation under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation. Excisions of the tissue enable the surgeon to remove a greater volume of glandular tissue and/or skin that liposuction alone cannot cure.
The size and location of the incisions are determined by the degree of surgery required. Nonetheless, they are usually positioned along the areola’s edge (peri-areolar incision) or inside the normal creases of the chest. The surgeon can make sure that the incisions are placed properly so that the marks are as unnoticeable as possible.
Gynecomastia Surgery Post Operation Process
Patients notice an immediate change in the structure and texture of their chests after gynecomastia surgery. Though they can be sore for a few days, the pain is usually minor. The healing time after liposuction is normally very short.
Patients are given a compression garment to wear for the first two weeks after surgery to help relieve swelling and provide relief to the recovering tissues.
While vigorous activity is normally prohibited for three weeks, most men return to work or school within a few days of the procedure. It’s important to remember, though, that everyone heals at a different rate, so the cosmetic surgeon can give each patient personalized recovery orders.
After a breast reduction with tissue excision, the healing process is close to that of liposuction; however, patients typically feel soreness and swelling. Patients are usually able to return to work after one week of operation, and after that, a phased return to exercise is permitted.
